A closer image of the outcrop showing the layers dipping away from view into the leaves. The layers expose planar surfaces on the undersides.
A broken off piece of rock with a chapstick container sitting on it shows layering of light and dark minerals within the rock. The layers vary from millimeter to centimeter scale with the light minerals making lager layers than the dark minerals.
A finger points to the exposed side of a rock showing the layering of light and dark minerals within the rock. This image shows that the dark layers have both light and dark minerals mostly homogeneously within them, however the light layers have a much higher proportion of light-to-dark minerals.
